The Empowerpuff Internship: Empowering the Next Generation of Creators
In 2018, Cartoon Network's classic series "The Powerpuff Girls" underwent a complete transformation, launching with a fresh brand identity and strategic vision that would redefine how the beloved franchise connected with audiences. This rebrand wasn't just about updating the look of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup—it was about reimagining what the Powerpuff Girls could represent for a new generation.
At the heart of this innovative approach was The Empowerpuff Internship, an experimental design project that embodied the show's core values of girl power and creative collaboration. Cartoon Network invited six talented young women artists to work directly alongside the network's research and design teams, offering them a unique opportunity to contribute to the official Powerpuff Girls social media platforms. This initiative reflected the brand's commitment to amplifying diverse voices and fostering the next wave of creative talent in the animation and design industry.
The internship served as both a practical application of the new brand strategy and guidelines, and a living testament to the Powerpuff Girls' enduring message: that when young women are given the platform and support to showcase their abilities, they can create something truly super.
